Saying hello and quick question

Hello there. I was recommended to try this board by some friends who have had nothing but nice things to say about it. Looking though a few threads to see that everything looks very interesting.

Sadly I have been unable to work out one thing and that is how we go about introducing a character. Should I just start posting in character or should I put up some kind of back story so nothing seems like it is just being dropped on people out of nowhere?

If I could get some clarification it would really help me.

No need for all that back story milarky. You just head over to the landing pad(Optional, useful if you have no desired direction to begin with.) or the Galaxy forum and dive right in. Any back story you wish to delve into you can unfold as you write.
